The other night I was standing outside the front of my house looking up into the clear night sky. It was actually about two o'clock in the morning. The stars were shining brightly, and I could make out the clouds in the shadow of the moon. Off and on there were noises of buzzing and humming, not really identifiable. In the background, the still almost eerie sound of silence echoed in the darkness. As I looked around I noticed my neighbor's vehicles in their driveways, their houses dark and still. I thought about the people asleep in their beds oblivious to the world existing outside their dreams.
I looked back up to the sky and wondered about the other side of the world. It was daylight there. People up, scurrying from here to there, taking care of business, cars, trucks, buses, trains, planes adding to the noise of day to day life. The hustle and bustle of work and play. Activities that are done while awake to keep things going until the day is over, darkness sets in and time for sleep has come.
I pondered the existence of Heaven overlooking both sides of the world, night and day. Watching, guarding, with an ever observant eye. Ready to protect and defend the totality of His creation.
I stood there in my driveway in the stillness of the night. I felt inconsequential at the vastness of the sky. And as I continued to look in the direction of the Heavens a peace came over me as a lone star gave a twinkle as if to say, I see you, I know you, I love you, and you ARE invaluable to the existence of My Creation.
I went back inside my home, lay down in my bed and had the most restful sleep I had had in a very long time.
