If you ever sat yourself in a dark quiet room with the door closed and tried not to hear or think about anything, you know it was a miserable failure. For some reason the sound of silence becomes a very loud hum in your head, and the more you try to get your mind off of it the louder it seems to get. You notice your thoughts get louder and faster as you try to concentrate on absolutely nothing but it still doesn't work. You put your hands over your ears, even though the noise you are hearing is not coming from the outside but from inside your brain. You're in a dark room but end up closing your eyes tightly only to see bright colored images flash across your eyelids. Your mind is racing now with intermitent thoughts of disorganized information which is really of no relevence to anything at all.
What happened to the quiet you thought you were going to have in that dark room with the door closed?
You sit there for a few minutes until you can't stand it anymore, then you get up and open the door. Bright lights fill your darkened space. Tv voices are heard over kids screaming and radio's blaring loud music without rhythm, the dog barking and doorbell ringing....................................................................
Ahhhhhh Silence!
