At 3 years old I stood at the top of our stair case looking down into the darkness. Everyone else was asleep.I remember there were about three or four steps down and then there was a platform and a curve to where the rest of the stairs went down to the bottom floor. I don't know how long I was standing there before I started to see something come out of the shadows slowly walking up the stairs. Whatever it was it looked like it had a human body but over it's head it looked like one of those large paper bags giving the impression of a square head. I remember this "thing" was almost to the platform when I let out what probably was a blood curdling scream. I was terrified, I couldn't move and that "thing" kept coming. I remember being swooped up from behind and carried into my parents bedroom where my dad flipped on the light, left me with my mom while he went to explore the house to make sure that it was safe. When he came back to the room I tried to explain what I had seen. My father picked me up, carried me downstairs and we walked through each room of the house flipping on lights and he would say "see? It's ok, there's nothing here" and slowly my fears subsided. My father made me feel safe.
I ended up sleeping with my parents the rest of that night. There were two or three other times that I woke up, terrified as I remembered that "thing" and once again my dad would carry me through the house until I felt safe. And then I would snuggle back in between my parents and fall back asleep. (We never found any evidence that there was ever anything there)
I am reminded that Our Heavenly Father is just like that when we are overcome with fear. As we to cry out to Him, He swoops us up in His arms and carries us, shining the light on truth. As we trust Him, He calms our fears. Even when we cry out more than once, He is faithful every time to swoop us up again and carry us until we feel safe, reminding us that when He is with us there is nothing to fear.
Isaiah 41:10
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand"
So when you are fearful for your kids, or about your situation, be encouraged. None if this is news to Him. The God of the universe is with you. THE God of the universe! What can be more encouraging and safe than that?
